Living with the tide.
Koh Yao Yai is a Thai island in the Andaman Sea and one of the last unspoilt islands in the Phang Nga Bay in Southern Thailand. An island that slowly but surely appears on the radar of tourists, but yet has preserved in its traditional ways of living. Rubber plantations and fishing villages sustain the island and its people. In fact, the majority of the people here are fishermen. They live a pace of life determined by the changes of the tide. While some take out their self-made long-tail boats to fish in the open sea, others seek to collect shellfish at low tide. Fishing and farming techniques on the island are passed on from father to son and, while some of the younger ones leave home for the bright lights of Phuket, most return to this island they call home.
